Welcome to the Levin Pistol Club Inc. (LPC) and thank you for showing interest in the pistol shooting sport.
Levin Pistol Club Inc. is a target pistol shooting club affiliated with Pistol New Zealand (The national body that manages the sport of target pistol shooting in New Zealand).
Target pistol shooting is a dynamic and exciting sport that encompasses many different styles of competition which are commonly called disciplines. Each discipline has its own attractions and its own set of rules. All disciplines have a common focus on safety of the shooter, other shooters and officials, observers, and the general public.
Safety is imperative in pistol shooting and The Levin Pistol Club is committed to assisting all members to safely enjoy the sport of target pistol shooting regardless of the disciplines you might want to get involved in.
Handguns are relatively small and it is easy to move their direction. This increases the potential risks of people getting hurt during the sport, for this reason following the safety rules and regulations to the letter is imperative. As a new member, you are only allowed the handle and shoot pistols under the direct supervision of one of the LPC training officers.
The Levin Pistol Club joining process
You can find out more about how to apply to join the Levin Pistol Club by emailing us at secretary@levinpistolclub.org.nz. Informing us if you have a fire arms licence, telling us a little about your background and why you are interested in becoming involved in the sport.
You will be contacted by the club secretary, who will email you a club application form and may invite you to visit the club. Once the completed application form has been received the secretary will contact you and provide you with the times and details of the range.
It is a requirement that you start with 3 shooting sessions to assess if you enjoy the sport. The limit of three visits prior to your decision to join is mandatory.
After the 3 sessions you can only shoot when you have paid the joining fees to the Levin Pistol Club and completed the Pistol New Zealand application form (FM1). Initially you join as a probationary member for a mandatory period of minimum of 6 months.
New members are initially trained by the club training officer and later supervised by senior members of the club in the safe handling and shooting of small calibre pistols on our indoor range.
Many members find indoor small calibre target pistol shooting (Also known as ISSF International Shooting Sport Federation) completely satisfying and remain in this discipline for their entire target pistol shooting career. Other members choose to get involved in other disciplines. Have a look at the disciplines pages to read more about the disciplines available at the Levin Pistol Club
After a minimum of 6 months and 12 shoots you are able to complete an application for full membership. The club committee will assess if you meet the requirements to become a full member. In case your full membership is approved the club can sponsor you in your application to the New Zealand Police for a B endorsement to their firearms licence (which is commonly known as a pistol license)
